It’s hard to believe that we are now just days away from the start of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. It officially kicks off June 1st and runs through November 30th. And the outlook isn’t so good. In fact, the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project team predicts an “above-normal” season with 19 named storms. This includes nine hurricanes, four of which will be major.

As you may recall, there were similar predictions for the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, and it ended up being the third-costliest hurricane season on record (behind 2005 and 2017) with $80 billion in damage.

That said, BOLDplanning, a division of Agility Recovery, encourages you to review your organizational or community’s emergency/continuity plans. And, if possible, to conduct some type of hurricane-related exercise. Also, if applicable, revisit your local hazard mitigation plan to see if there are any previously identified projects that can be completed in the near term.

The Atlantic hurricane season usually doesn’t peak until September, so time should be on your side. Just use it wisely to ensure the emergency preparedness of your organization or community.
